Assignment #7

AUDIO SLIDESHOW

I have never wished I owned a Mac computer more than I have in the past two weeks! Particularly because I would have liked to have more time to work with Garage Band. I ended up downloading a free trial of Pinnacle Studio and used it to create my slideshow (instead of iMovie).

Last week's sound project was the most challenging assignment for me so far this semester. I had never previously worked with sound, and was not satisfied with my results. I started to develop a few new audio pieces for my slideshow, but eventually went back to my original concept from last week. I expanded my sleep/dream and morning routine sequence, and am happier with the results.

I chose to pair my audio piece with photos of Belvedere Castle in Central Park, which I manipulated in Photoshop to look like (hyper-reality) time-lapse-ish photos from morning to night. Most of the photos were from my previous photo manipulation assignment, but I actually went back and created some additional photos for the slideshow as well.

Assignment #6

For my sound assignment, I created a snippet of what someone's morning might sound like with a soundtrack added to his or her life:

• Snoring and dreaming while asleep
• Waking up to an alarm clock
• Walking down the hall to the bathroom
• Getting in the shower - taking a shower - getting out of the shower
• Walking back to the bedroom
  

Almost all of the sounds that I used for this assignment were ones I either created or found in my apartment and pieced together to sound like something else.  The "soundtrack" portions of my piece are sound effects from Garage Band.

Assignment #4

TURTLES!

We lucked out this week – the days are getting longer and the sun has made an appearance or two.  Monday was a beautiful, cloudless day, so I decided to take a walk with my new camera.  I'm still getting used to the camera and had some issues (see below), but that is to be expected I guess.

 

I sometimes enjoy lens flare in photos.  I don't always mind the loss of contrast when the tradeoff is capturing beautiful sun rays.  What I didn't realize was how intense the sun spots would be in some of my photos, and unfortunately I didn't notice as I was shooting to make corrections.  I will definitely be more aware of this with my new camera going forward.
